Dr Tonia Cochran

Conservation & Wildlife - Tasmania

Dr Tonia Cochran ~ Wilderness Australia

With a PhD in Zoology, extensive teaching and lecturing experience and an 11-year stint in Antarctic research, Tonia has a wide range of experience in Australian fauna and flora.  In addition to acting as a guest speaker, around Australia and overseas on topics ranging from Antarctica to threatened species conservation, to working on television documentaries and writing magazine articles, Tonia is also an environmental consultant on a number of projects.

Amazingly, she still finds time to be involved with ecotourism.  She has worked diligently to combine nature conservation practices with sustainable agriculture on her property 'INALA', where priority is given to protecting critical wildlife habitat. The property is now used as a research base for a number of University projects and an educational venue for schools and environmental groups.
Tonia hosts full day trips or overnight visits to Bruny Island where guests are accommodated in a cottage surrounded by native wildlife in natural forest surrounds.  Tonia will also host groups on extended tours throughout Tasmania's various environments, particularly if there is a nature and conservation theme to the tour.
